TIME will reveal
Thoughts on Pete Hegseth, TIME's list, resigning politicians and '10 Things I Hate About You' on Broadway
—And I quote: "Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own."—Paulo Coelho
—Point to ponder: An African and Asian are among the front-runners to be the next pope. If one of them was elected, that might blow some minds. As for Pope Francis, he was, indeed, the “people’s pope,” moving the needle toward total acceptance more than any recent pontiff—although, with the LGBTQ+ community, his legacy remains complex.
—The name game: Some Mexican cafés are changing the name of the Americano to protest against U.S. policies, particularly with regard to immigration.
I see you a gulf and raise you some coffee.
—Not too Sharpe: I’m finding out far more about Shannon Sharpe than I ever wanted to know, including his sexual proclivities.
Before, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the sports commentator one media outlet has called “marble-mouthed.” (At times, he can be a bit difficult to understand.)
What I DO understand, though, is that he’s been accused of defamation and sexual assault in two separate suits (after he and Fox reportedly settled with a previous accuser after she accused him of choking her). One of the more interesting things I’ve heard is that his alleged actions have embodied misdirection, as Sharpe has been dealing with gay rumors for years. The possibility that someone would rather risk these lawsuits than come out is unusual, to say the least—but I’m also sure it wouldn’t be groundbreaking.
However, regardless of the reason, if Sharpe committed these actions, then he should certainly pay the price. People are still innocent until proven guilty (a concept that admittedly sometimes seems laughable these days), but that previous settlement doesn’t look good—for him or Fox. No wonder Sharpe felt the need to step away from ESPN—or maybe the network felt he needed to step away.
—Off the court: Thank you, Chicago Bulls, for another season of mediocrity—even if you (briefly) defied expectations after having two top players traded.
—I remember drama: Apparently, I’m into soap operas now again, and I can't wait for Willow to come to her senses on General Hospital. I know that Cameron Mathison looks good, but come on!
And then there’s the CBS series Beyond the Gates.
