—Dine and dandy: Who doesn’t like food? Please don’t forget that I have another Substack—SAVOR with Andrew—that’s all about the Chicago dining scene.
—Giving thanks: Thank you, Rev. Jesse Jackson, for all you did concerning the fight for equality.
—Don’t speak: It’s interesting how some people make fun of others’ accents (whether foreign or even Southern)—not realizing that if they were in those people’s areas or countries, THEY would be the ones with the “funny-sounding” accents.
—Ad nauseum: The number of pharmaceutical ads I see is amazing (and not in a good way). Interestingly, some of the medications being promoted sound like people I used to know back in the day. Skyrizi? Yep.
Interestingly, until recently, only the United States and New Zealand allowed drug companies to directly advertise prescription drugs to consumers, mainly because of concerns over health and spending. However, in 2025, the Court of Justice of the European Union (EU) ruled that while member states have discretion to regulate pharmacy advertising, an absolute ban conflicts with EU law unless it is shown to be both necessary and proportionate.
—Wait, expectations: Why is it with some shows that you enjoy a particular season—and then you have to wait half your life for the very next season? It’s really annoying for the fans.
—Up in arms: Why are people making such a big deal over actor Pedro Pascal and creative director Rafael Olarra linking arms as they walked down the street in NYC?
Pascal is a huge ally of the LGBTQ+ community (and has a trans sister, Luz) so I’m thinking that he’d have no problem coming out. In addition, many cultures (including Middle Eastern) have men who frequently walk arm in arm. Third—and probably most important—it’s their (possibly joint) private life and it’s really none of our business (although since they’re public figures, I guess there’s a legal basis for the photography).
