"We have to talk about liberating minds as well as liberating society."—Angela Y. Davis

—Dine and dandy: Who doesn’t like food? Please don’t forget that I have another Substack—SAVOR with Andrew—that’s all about the Chicago dining scene.

—Catherine the great: As most of you know, actress Catherine O’Hara (Best in Show; Schitt’s Creek) has passed away at age 71 (gone too soon). But I thank her for the many great cinematic/TV gifts she left behind. (BTW, all six seasons of Schitt’s Creek are airing on HBO Max.)

—A moment of importance: Please don’t forget that this is Black History Month—and that DEI matters. We can all learn from everyone else.

—Year and loathing: People are looking back at 2016 as a “wonderful” year. Isn’t that when Trump was first elected?

—Making a statement: I’m seeing buttons and T-shirts with the phrases “ICE Out” and “Melt ICE.” (Then, there’s Winter Olympian Gus Kenworthy making his own statement with his bodily fluids.) They both work for me. BTW, the phrase “make it make sense” has seldom been more appropriate than the situations regarding Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

—Food for thought: I wonder how people in this country would react if another nation kidnapped Donald and Melania Trump to be tried in that place? Never mind…

—The name game: Someone on Facebook suggested that Denmark rename Greenland “Epstein Island,” indicating that President Trump would then leave the territory alone.

—Chilling: This recent polar vortex had everyone staying in as much as possible. There were shades of the COVID pandemic—except there weren’t nearly as many face masks (or protests about them).

—Having a ball: Since I correctly predicted this year’s Super Bowl contenders to a couple of my friends, I’ll predict that the Seattle Seahawks will win it all. Note: If the Patriots prevail and you bet a bundle, don’t come after me.

—Crime time: First, let me share that my heart goes out to Today co-host Savannah Guthrie and her family while Nancy Guthrie—the 84-year-old mother of Savannah and her two siblings—remains missing.

And yet…

I talk about much more below, including Karamo Brown and the show Kings of Pain—and that content might surprise you. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
